BELGRADE – From 1 January 2024 to 30 June 2024, Serbia aligned with 47% of EU foreign policy declarations, while other candidate countries in the region – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia – aligned with 100% of them. These are the results of the analysis of the International and Security Affairs Center (ISAC Fund), released yesterday.
“Serbia has continued its alignment patterns with the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) in 2024, similar to 2022 and 2023, when [it] had alignment rates of 48 per cent and 54 per cent, respectively”, ISAC analysis reads.
From January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, the EU has issued 57 declarations, calling on candidate and partner countries to align with. Serbia aligned with 27 declarations and consequent measures yet failed to align with as many as 30, the analysis shows.
As before, Serbia has avoided aligning with declarations and measures directed against the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, their nationals, entities, or interests.
“One of the main reasons for this position remains the issue of Kosovo, as Serbia continues to seek the support of both Russia and China in various international fora”, ISAC assesses.
On the other hand, Serbia aligned with restrictive measures implemented concerning ISIS/ Al-Qaeda, terrorism, Syria, and Burma/Myanmar.
When it comes to other EU candidate countries, Ukraine was at 93% of alignment in the first half of 2024, while Moldova was at 86%. Georgia’s alignment with EU foreign policy was 44%, and the alignment of Turkey was only 7%, ISAC analysis has shown.
