Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to pay an official visit to Serbia on 8 August

This will be Zelenskyy’s first visit to Serbia whose authorities have refused to join in the sanctions against Russia following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

BELGRADE – Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenskyy will pay an official visit to Serbia on Saturday, 8 August , it has been officially stated by the press office of the Serbian President this afternoon. The press release stresses that Zelensky will be hosted by his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić.

N1 Serbia reminds that this will be Zelenskyy’s first visit to Serbia whose authorities have refused to join in the sanctions against Russia following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

On 3 August, Ukrainian President stated that in the autumn the Carpathian Initiative will be launched. He clarified that a new regional platform that will bring together Ukraine, Serbia and six other European countries to strengthen cooperation in the domains of economy, security, logistics, tourism and reconstruction of Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, Euronews.rs reported.

Zelenskyy underlined that the idea of establishing an initiative stemmed from the fact that some countries are not ready to support Ukraine by delivering weapons, but they want to contribute in the humanitarian, security and economic spheres. He pointed out that the goal of the Carpathian Initiative is to strengthen regional cooperation in the fields of logistics, economy, security, culture and tourism.

In the next phase, he added, special programs should be established for the Carpathian Region, which would include financial support and development projects.

In addition, Ukrainian President stated that he presented the idea to the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, who, according to him, positively assessed it.
