BRUSSELS – EU Special Representative in Pristina Samuel Zbogar presented his proposal for the resolution of the dispute concerning the bridge in Kosovska Mitrovica to participants of the technical dialogue in Brussels, said Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini.
“The chair of the working group discussing the issue of the bridge (EUSR Samuel Zbogar) presented to both sides the technical assessment that was recently undertaken and suggestions on the way forward,” Kocijancic said in a press release, without specifying the details of the proposal.
The delegations of Belgrade and Pristina met on Tuesday and Wednesday in Brussels and discussed the issue of the bridge over the Ibar River, which connects the northern (Serb-populated) and the southern (ethnic Albanian) part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
The Serb authorities in northern Mitrovica built the Peace Park on that bridge in order to prevent constant intrusions and attacks by ethnic Albanians.
Although there are four other bridges over the Ibar, ethnic Albanian authorities in Pristina demand that the park be removed, claiming that it impedes the flow of traffic between the two parts of the city.
Kocijancic announced that the talks on the bridge will resume on Monday, June 22, while a meeting between the prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic and Isa Mustafa, respectively, is scheduled for the next day.
