TIRANA – Albanian Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha met with European Parliament’s standing Rapporteur on Albania, MEP Knut Fleckenstein, focusing on the opposition’s claim related to boycotting the parliament and initiating protests, on Tuesday afternoon, Albanian news agency ATA reports.
“We discussed the opposition’s agenda, because there is no election with this government in power. Democratic Party, the opposition is united on this purpose and it is determined to be alongside Albanian citizens to the realization of this vital issue for the country”, said Basha following the meeting.
“Under these circumstances there is no other solution than a caretaker government. The decision of the opposition is not to be part of a bogus parliament until the political parties inside and outside the parliament, become part of a national pact for a caretaker government to guarantee free and fair elections”, DP’s leader added.
The focus of the discussion was on opposition’s claims to guarantee fair and free elections as well as the boycott of the parliament until the set up of a caretaker government.
DP’s leader Basha said also that MEP Fleckenstein is not in Albania to negotiate, he is here to report on Albania. He praised Fleckenstein about EP’s resolution on Albania and informed him on the opposition claim to free and fair elections.
“The Democratic Party is proud of its contribution to the judicial reform,” Basha said.
“Free and fair elections are currently vital for the country and the only way to guarantee the return of the opposition is the national pact for free and fair elections,” underlined DP’s leader Basha.
