Hahn: 2025 an ambitious but feasible accession date

BRUSSELS – Serbia and the region will join the EU “probably sooner than some might have expected”, and 2025 is an ambitious but feasible accession date, EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn said in Brussels Thursday.

“As the commissioner dealing with this process on a daily basis…, this date – 2025 – is indeed an ambitious one – but I have to say, provided that everybody is, once again, contributing and participating – it is something which is feasible,” he said after the fourth meeting of the Serbia-EU Stabilisation and Association Council, also attended by Serbian PM Ana Brnabić.

What one should not forget is that “to join the Union in 2025 means to complete all the preparatory work, the negotiations around 2023 because afterwards we need the ratification process,” he said.
