BRUSSELS – European Commissioner Johannes Hahn participated in the European Parliament plenary debate on the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance IPAIII.
“Today’s plenary debate shows broad agreement between the European Commission and European Parliament on how to provide more strategic steering of the European investments in accession countries. Grateful in particular for European Parliament strong support for the new thematic approach”, Hahn wrote.
He explained that they will help country candidates with the projects in a way the projects could be implemented and financially supported.
“So if one country is more focused on the issue of rule of law, they should have more opportunity to invest more in the rule of law. But at the end of date, the date of accession, they need to be in line with other different elements to get quasi-approval by us, by Member State to accept the new member state. To arrive there, you need to have more flexibility”, said Hahn in a closing statement.
