WASHINGTON – The launch of a Balkan branch of the US Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), scheduled for 18 November in Belgrade, has been postponed until next year, CPAC chairman Matt Schlapp confirmed for Insajder. Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić had been due to host the conference and deliver its keynote address.
“The conference has been postponed until next year. We were overly ambitious in thinking we could hold it in November. We look forward to an impactful conference”, Schlapp.
According to Insajder, ahead of Serbia’s parliamentary elections, CPAC announced plans to establish Balkan chapter and hold its first conference in south-eastern Europe, bringing together regional leaders and activists promoting national sovereignty, family, faith and entrepreneurship. Energy was announced as the main topic of the Belgrade conference.
The exact date for the launch of CPAC’s Balkan branch has yet to be announced.
In its statement announcing the Balkan chapter, CPAC said it has decided to expand its “network of conservative leaders united against globalism and the radical left into Europe’s most strategically important region”.
CPAC brings together influential Americal conservatives, and its events have featured speeches by US President Donald Trump and other prominent Republicans. Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has also delivered opening addresses as a guest. CPAC events have been held in Italy, Brazil, Israel, Japan and other countries.
