TIRANA – COMKFOR, Major General Giovanni Fungo on Thursday paid an official visit to Albania’s Ministry of Defence where he was received by the Deputy Defence Minister Petro Koçi, and the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Bardhyl Kollçaku.
The meeting focused on pressing security and defence issues as well as Albania’s contribution to the NATO-led peace-support operation in Kosovo (KFOR). Fungo praised Albania and its Armed Forces, considering the country a reliable and trustworthy partner.
Deputy Defence Minister Petro Koçi underlined that KFOR is seen as a success story for NATO.
“KFOR guarantees security and stability to all citizens of Kosovo. On the other hand, we are staunch advocates of transformation of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) into Kosovo Armed Forces in best interest of peace and stability in Kosovo and the region. The issue should be discussed within NATO,” Koçi said.
The Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Bardhyl Kollçaku praised role and leadership of KFOR commander in successful management of the situation, as well as the KFOR cooperation with Kosovo Security Force by assisting this force to transform into an army.
On his part, KFOR commander General Major Giovanni Fungo praised Albania’s Armed Forces for their contribution to KFOR.
