BRUSSELS – A candidate for president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated on Wednesday in Brussels that the EU’s door should remain open to the countries of the Western Balkans. She told that at a hearing in the European Parliament ahead of a vote on her nomination next week. She also stressed that the focus of her attention will be on promoting the rule of law, digitalization, competitiveness and the fight against climate change. “The European Union is based on principles,” she said, outlining the priorities of her future policy, for the first time since being nominated for the EC president, reports Reuters.
