In a tense atmosphere at Parliament, with 64 votes “for” and with none “against”, the Law on the Use of Languages was passed without a debate on the 36,000 amendments submitted by the opposition VMRO-DPMNE. VMRO-DPMNE MPs protested and were led by their former leader Nikola Gruevski. A smaller physical altercation between Gruevski and Xhaferi was prevented. “These latest developments in Parliament confirm that it was Nikola Gruevskui who was behind the attempts to block the work of Parliament, the reform process and Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic perspective,” said SDSM in a statement.
