BELGRADE – In their separate reactions to the Student List’s victory in Serbia’s parliamentary elections, representatives of both Russia and Ukraine expressed hope for stronger ties.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, as reported by N1 citing Sputnik, that Moscow hopes the new Serbian authorities will strive for constructive relations with Russia.

“As for the new political force coming to power as a result of the elections, we would like to express our hope that its actions will also be constructively directed toward the further development of relations,” Peskov stated. He stressed that cooperation with Russia is in Serbia’s interest and is beneficial to the country.

Peskov added that Moscow intends to continue doing everything in its power to encourage the development of relations between the two nations.

“As far as we are concerned, we intend to continue doing everything possible to encourage the development of our relations with Belgrade, but, as you know, it takes two to tango”, he remarked.

Peskov also noted that the Kremlin appreciates the contribution of former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

“We have taken note of the results of the elections in Serbia. We greatly appreciate Vučić’s contribution to the development of our bilateral relations”.

For his part, Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the victory of the Student List is “a new chapter the history of the country and its people.

“We wish Serbia success, real development, and warm relations with the European community. We in Ukraine thank Serbia for respecting our people, our state, and our independence. And we always celebrate our shared achievements – everything that strengthens our societies and gives people more opportunities. We are ready to continue expanding our cooperation, and may all the good hopes of the people of Serbia come true”,  Zelenskyy wrote in an X post.
