PODGORICA – Maida Gorčević, Minister of European Affairs of Montenegro, stated that the Government of Montenegro had adopted all negotiating positions and submitted reports to the European Commission on the fulfilment of the closing benchmarks for all remaining chapters.
“After 14 years, work on all 33 negotiating chapters has been completed. We have kept our promise to our citizens and European partners that we would complete our part of the work on time”, Gorčević wrote in a X post.
She clarified that “this movement of political and institutional significance also marks the greatest step forward in Montenegro’s European integration process, encompassing 33 negotiating chapters, 98 closing benchmarks, nearly 1,000 reform activities, and a long-standing process of demonstrating the implementation of European standards”.
“By the end of the year, evaluations by European institutions and decisions by EU member states are expected, along with the procedures for closing the remaining 12 chapters. We are continuing with clear objectives and deadlines: concluding negotiations in 2026, signing the Accession Treaty in 2027, and Montenegro becoming a member of the European Union in 2028”, Maida Gorčević stressed.
