Vice PM Besimi on Western Balkans Perspectives after European Elections

At a roundtable “The European perspectives of the Western Balkans following the European Parliament elections”, held at the SEE university, Vice PM for European Affairs Fatmir Besimi said the results of those elections are just a reflection of the political, economic and security crisis in Europe over the past few years. “Such an institutional fatigue in the EU also appeared 10 years ago, after the last big enlargement, when Euroscepticism rose as well,” he stressed. While he says that that statement is not an attempt to trivialise the situations in this area after the latest developments “because it is obvious that there are now parties in the European Parliament that are more conservative” regarding the enlargement process”, he stresses that Macedonia adheres to the view that EU accession is a priority for all Western Balkan countries.
